Nail removal...im going to need a surgen for this question.?

Would it be possible to romove all of the organs or whatever that makes the nal a nail, and re-place it by a fake metal one... i was thinking that you could drill so far into the bone and put groves there and place the fake nail so where it would be locked in the with ''puzzel-like'' parts to lock it there.Nail removal...im going to need a surgen for this question.?
While I'm not a surgeon, I can say that this could probably be done but the drawbacks likely outweigh the benefits. First, yes, you could remove all of the part of the nail (which would have to include the stem cells which cause the nail to grow out but the fact is, it would take a lot of major reconstructive work to make your finger look like a finger again. Secondly, yes you could drill some sort of ';holder'; into the bone of the finger but you'd probably end up with either a soft-tissue infection (and may lose the finger) or a bone infection and neither of those are particularly pleasant.
