Can someone give me information on toe nail removal surgery please?

My GP has recommended that I have both my big toe nails and nail beds surgically removed. Can someone please give me the info on what is involved etc?

Many thanksCan someone give me information on toe nail removal surgery please?
This is generally carried out under local in the GP's surgery.

A digital block is produced by injecting a mix of 50% lidocaine+50% marcaine into the nerves at each side of the toe. This is painful, but once injected the remainder of the procedure is painless.

The nail is then twisted of and phenolic acid pushed into the nail bed on Q-tips for 2 minutes. The acid is then neutralised by flushing with surgical spirit.

The marcaine anaesthetic takes about 7 hours to wear off and by this time the toe is usually pain free. Can someone give me information on toe nail removal surgery please?
I had both of my great toe nails removed in 1994. To this day I have residual nails that peel off in layers so I don't know if it was done correctly. Being immobile after the removal of the nails I developed pneumonia and was in the hospital for 9 days.

I had to have both of my big toe nails removed due to genetic malformation that ended up with ingrown toenails. I didn't skip a beat after. I missed more days of work before due to pain.
Thoughts, hopes and prayers my friend.

Never had it done on myself actually
sometimes, nail removal is not what we need. sometimes, what we need is a nail medicine. i have read about nail fungus and testimonials have impressed me. this medicine is called Zetaclear. many people was impressed of this.

I had a nail removal operation for ingrowing nail but it reoccured. What should I do?

Doctors suggest me that I should go for a plastic surgery for the correction of the nail bed but I am scared with the operation.I had a nail removal operation for ingrowing nail but it reoccured. What should I do?
Would you rather have surgery once or continuously get ingrown nails for the rest of your life?I had a nail removal operation for ingrowing nail but it reoccured. What should I do?
    idk
I had both of the outer 1/3 edges of my big toe nails removed and my pediatrist told me it is possible they will grow back to some degree and if that happened to make another appointment and he would re-do the procedure using the max amount of medication to kill the nail bed. I had 1 of the 4 edges re-grow back a little and he did the procedure again on the nail side with no extra charge. I had no more problems after the 2nd procedure. I had normal nails and nail beds. If yours are abnormal or have a condition which requires further surgery you may only have that option but I would certainly ask about having the original procedure re-done for that specific nail/nail bed first.
you should first see a podiatrist to make sure that they cant help you for a smaller sum of money, then if they think you should go for an operation make sure you get a good opinion from multiple practitioners. Don't worry if it comes down to an operation, there is nothing to worry about as you would be in good hands.

Will I be able to work after nail removal?

I am going to have both of my big toenails removed next week. I cant afford to take any time off of work. Will I be able to work the next day? I work at a job that requires standing and walking all day. Will I be able to work after nail removal?
I had 2 ingrown toe nails removed about 2 years ago. I did not have the whole nail removed the doctor under local just cut down the sides of the nail. I had to have dressings on them for a week and changed twice by a nurse twice in that week. I was a lifeguard at the time and I would not have dreamt of working. The pain was bearable when at rest. Just a dull achey throbbing pain. It became worse when i walked on it. I did not go back to work till the dressings came off.

It really depends on what your pain tolerance is. I guess i have a low threshold. Though the other reason was becasue i dont think i could have done my job properly if i did have to make a rescue.

Hope this helps. I would take at least a day off as the local takes about 4-5 hours to wear off and it is amazing how hard it is to walk with numb toes!!!

Hope this helps! Will I be able to work after nail removal?
Yes... most people are able to tolerate the minimal discomfort of the procedure - some even with simple over-the-counter pain medications. You'll have to wear sloppy fitting shoes or post-op shoes, but either way you ought to do just fine.

Believe me... I've done hundreds and hundreds of the same procedure.

    (((( r u randy? ))))
Ask the doctor if it's ok. My friend had one of hers removed and went back to work, but months later is still having pain and seepage...can you wear slippers or sandals at work? Be REALLY CAREFUL NOT to bump it
well i dont know from experience but my brother got that done and he was in a lot of pain and in a job that requires you to stand I'd say you are s.o.l if you know what i mean...

What health insurance plans cover toenail fungus medication and nail removal surgery?

    Hi,

I suffer from toenail fungus, and I've tried ALL home remedies available without success. I'm also about to buy health insurance. I thought I would take this opportunity to finally visit the doctor and get rid of this problem. My questions are:

    1. Which health insurance plans offer the best coverage to treat toenail fungus?

    2. Do they cover the medication and the surgery required in some cases to remove the toenail?

Thank you for all your help! What health insurance plans cover toenail fungus medication and nail removal surgery?
most insurance will cover the costs you mention if the doctor thinks it is medically necessary. What health insurance plans cover toenail fungus medication and nail removal surgery?
Theres many online sites that will provide you with free quotes. Try getting it bundled together with your car insurance if you can and home, here's some from my bookmarks:

    just see what they offer

Since this is a pre-existing condition there is a good chance that none of them will be willing to cover it.

    Nail removal?

I have nail fungus in 9 of my toenails (yea it sucks)

and was wondering how painful it'd be to get 9 toenails removed at the same time? how long would it take for them to grow back?Nail removal?
I have ripped my toenail off before and you don't want to have the nails permanently removed. The skin underneath is sensitive and very moist. When my nail grew back it always became ingrown, and eventually I had to have surgery to prevent the nail from being able to become ingrown. They have a pill that you can take to treat nail fungus. If you haven't already try talking to your doctor. Good Luck!Nail removal?
    it depends..
yucky ! toe nails don't grow back once remove
I didn't realize until recently that this was even possible. I talked to an aunt who had hers removed permanently (due to fungus). She loves it because she also had major problems with ingrown toenails. She paints the area just like the nails were still there, and you really can't tell that they aren't!!! What will they think of next?
