Ingrown toe nail removal: Does it hurt?

Please only answer if you actually had this done.

In a couple hours I'll be getting two of my ingrown toe nails removed. They will apparently numb it, and will be cutting my toe on both sides, and I'll of course be fully conscience. I am terrified. Will I feel anything? Will it actually hurt? They'll probably stitch it up, right? Anything you have to say would be useful!Ingrown toe nail removal: Does it hurt?
Hey hun i got it done a year or 2 ago, yeah it was quite sore only the injections am not going to lie, but it was well worth it now that i have a nice healthy toe back.

Yes they numb it they inject you on each side of your toe and then down the way from the top of the toe so it is completely numbed. i watched the whole thing amazed by what they were doing but i couldnt feel it lol, there is a lot of tugging and it feels uncomfortable but not painful.

After then injections they started to cut out the infected part of the nail (i never got the whole nail removed) right from the nail bed, after they removed the infected part of the nail they used some sort of acid to kill that part of the nail bed to stop the nail growing back.

Oh and no they dont stitch it up as they dont cut any of your skin, they bandage it up pretty well tho, your toes ends up being about 10x its normal size lol

Good luck and dont stress yourself out about it, its not as bad as you think!

Hope everything goes well (';,)

The injections do hurt a little bit but its an anesthetic they are putting into your to so you wont feel anything. They are injecting something called local anesthetic well i assume so, this is what they did for me). That means you are totally numb to anything in that part of your body. They use it for much bigger operations than an ingrown toenail so don't worry about it. Yes they will probably stitch it up. The only advice I can give is try not to look. When I had mine done i had to lie down and was given the option of if I wanted to look on a screen. I said yes and wished i hadn't.
The injections in the toe and under the nail does hurt, but you still feel the pulling of the nail when they remove it, it made me feel a little sick so take your time getting up after wards, They don't put real stitches in it just the tape ones. They wrap it really well and you need open toe shoes or the crocs to be able to wear any thing on your feet over the next week, Good luck.
i had to have the same thing done. ok the needle they used on me was pretty long and really hurt. try to tune out the pain if u can, think about other things. once your toe is numb then u will still THINK u feel them cutting but u really wont. after they are done they probably wont stich it up but if they do then u wont feel it cuz the numbness will last for the rest of the day.

best of luck
i will be honest the injections in both side of the toe hurts a little, you can not feel the rest, iv had this done 2 times on one big toe and once on 1 big toe! they wanted to remove the nail completely but i wouldn't let them! just don't cut them to one side or to low once they heal! you will be fine.x
oh yeah but leaving it there would hurt more!!!!!!!!i had an ingrown nail but it went away somehow i dont know how but it just did..i think it was the salt water from the sea...yeah there were white stuff oozing out after dipping my feet in the sea..
IT HURTS EVEN MORE IF U LET IT STAY. IT WONT HURT AS MUCH BUT IT WILL BE PAINFUL A LITTLE
I wont lie to you.yes. it hurts.

bring some music or something to distract you.
Doctors always try the path that is not surgical. That red area is a swelling that usually comes with an ingrown toenail. I can鈥檛 tell for sure, but I also think you鈥檒l have a surgical removal of ingrown toenail. Don鈥檛 worry- this is not a big operation- it lasts only 1 hour and you are given a local anesthesia The operation is not painful- the most painful part is the injection of the local anesthetic, since injections into toes or fingers are painful due to the tight skin and many nerve endings. The procedure may be very painful if not done correctly! You could always ask to be asleep during the entire process.

The procedure will last less than a hour. The doctor will put nail up and cut along the toe鈥檚 edge, where the skin is growing into the skin and that way remove your nail. Doctor shall maybe use a chemical to prevent the nail from growing back in the same area. Don鈥檛 worry for the toe- another one will grow in a two months period.

You shall need a ride home! After you come home and when local anesthesia abate it might hurt, but if you lift your leg or at least put it at the same high as your sitting/ lying body it should stop. Otherwise use analgetic, which will relieve pain and that must help! I am certain you鈥檒l be given antibiotics in order to reduce possibility of infection. After the surgery you shall have to do the dressing for about two weeks鈥?the stitches shall be removed after 10 days and 2 weeks after the operation you are not supposed to do any strenuous activities or at least limit them. You are not supposed to wear high- heel or uncomfortable shoes. In the future trim your toenails straight across and do not pick or tear at them, since that may increase the possibility of an ingrown toenail again.

I also had Ingrown toenail removal and it is not painful and in a few days you鈥檒l be completely on your feet.

Good luck with your ingrown toenail removal!

I had 2 ingrown toenails removed in the same day, yes you will feel pain but it is mostly psychological, the shot is the most painful, but on the first day and you don't have the medicine yet, it is the worst pain, so get medicine for the pain, Depending on the depth of the toenail they will either stitch it of glue it (They also bandage it pretty tight!)! If you really are that scared ask if they will put you asleep for it or, have your spouse go back and hold your hand!
